Terms of Service
Last updated September 24, 2026
These terms explain what PermitSketch is, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. The short version: it is a drawing tool, not an engineering service; your projects are yours; you can cancel Pro at any time; and a project unlock is refundable within 14 days.
1. The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and PermitSketch ("PermitSketch", "we", "us") for the use of permitsketch.com and the PermitSketch app (the "service"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you use the service for a business, you agree to them for that business too. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your information.
2. What PermitSketch is, and what it is not
PermitSketch is a drawing tool. It turns the address, photos, description and measurements you give it into draft drawing sheets for residential permit applications. It is not an engineering, architecture, surveying or code-review service, and nothing it produces is an engineer's or architect's design, a stamped drawing, or advice that your project meets any code.
- Every sheet is a draft. Sizes, spacings and connections are drawn only from what you enter; anything you leave blank is marked VERIFY IN FIELD.
- Property information we look up from public sources, and AI-generated illustrations of the finished work, can be wrong or incomplete. Illustrations are for presentation only and are not to scale.
- You are responsible for checking every sheet, for the accuracy of your measurements, for what you submit, and for meeting your building department's requirements, including using a licensed professional where one is required.
- We do not promise that any permit will be approved.
3. Your account
You need an account to use the app. You must be at least 18, give accurate information, keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us through the support form if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
4. Your projects and photos
You keep ownership of what you put into PermitSketch: addresses, photos, descriptions, measurements, logos and the drawings made from them. You give us permission to store, process, copy and display that content only as needed to run the service for you, including sending it to the service providers named in our Privacy Policy (for example, to generate drawings or look up property records).
Only upload photos and information you have the right to use. Uploaded photos and logos are stored at long, unguessable web addresses so the app can show them; anyone who is given such an address can open the file.
5. Using the service fairly
You agree not to:
- use the service for anything unlawful, or to create misleading documents;
- get around usage limits, the watermark on free permit sheets, or payment, including by creating extra accounts;
- send automated traffic, scrape the service, probe it for weaknesses, or interfere with how it runs;
- use the support form or any other feature to send spam or messages to people who did not ask for them;
- copy, resell or rebrand the service itself.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
6. The free plan and usage limits
You can use PermitSketch for free. Permit sheets downloaded on the free plan carry the PermitSketch watermark; drawings you make yourself in the Manual Studio export without it. To keep the service fair and affordable, every account has limits on how many drawings, property lookups and uploads it can make in a given time; the app tells you when you reach one. We may change the free plan and the limits.
7. Paid plans and billing
- Project unlock ($19, one-time). Removes the watermark from the downloads of one project, including every revision, while that project stays at the property address it was bought for. If you change the project to a different property, the unlock does not move with it. If you only corrected a typo in the address, ask us and we will move your unlock.
- Pro ($39 per month). Removes the watermark from every project while your subscription is active. It renews automatically every month, on the day you subscribed, until you cancel.
Prices are in US dollars. We do not currently charge sales tax; if that changes, the tax is shown on the checkout page before you pay. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries it again over the following days, and if it still cannot be collected, Pro ends. We may change prices; a new Pro price applies from your next renewal after we tell you about it, and you can cancel before then.
8. Cancelling Pro
You can cancel Pro at any time from Manage subscription in the app, which opens Stripe's billing page, or by asking us through the support form. Cancelling stops all future payments. Pro stays on until the end of the month you have already paid for, and your projects stay in your account.
9. Refund policy
- Project unlock: if you ask within 14 days of buying it, we refund it in full.
- Pro: if you ask within 14 days of your first Pro payment, we refund that payment and end the subscription, so you are not charged again. Later monthly payments are not refunded, but you can cancel at any time so that you are not charged again.
To ask for a refund, use the support form from the account you paid with and tell us which purchase it is. Refunds go back to the original payment method through Stripe and usually appear within 5 to 10 business days. Once a payment is refunded, new downloads carry the watermark again. If you dispute a charge with your bank instead, what it paid for is withdrawn while the dispute is open, and a project unlock comes back only if the dispute is decided in our favour. Disputing a Pro payment does not cancel the subscription: it keeps renewing, and Pro comes back with the next payment that goes through, until you cancel it from Manage subscription. If the law where you live gives you more rights than this policy, you have those rights too.
10. Changes to the service
We are always improving PermitSketch, so features may change, and we may stop offering part of the service. The service may sometimes be unavailable. If we ever close the service entirely, we will give you notice and a chance to download your drawings.
11. Disclaimers
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the drawings are accurate, complete, code-compliant or fit for a particular purpose, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
12. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, PermitSketch is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, construction costs, delays, fines or permit decisions, arising from your use of the service or the drawings. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50 if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
You agree to cover claims by others (for example, a property owner or a contractor) that result from drawings you made or submitted with the service, or from your breaking these terms.
13. Ending the agreement
You can stop using PermitSketch at any time and ask us to delete your account through the support form. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if we have to for legal reasons. Sections 4 and 9 to 14 continue to apply after the agreement ends.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Massachusetts, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. This does not take away any protection you have under the consumer laws of the place where you live.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies to you. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the updated terms.
16. Contact
Questions about these terms, billing or refunds: please use the support form, and a person on the PermitSketch team will reply by email.
